After graduating from Harvard Law School in 2000, and throughout my 15 year legal career, I have been very fortunate to have worked in some of the most rewarding jobs in the legal industry. As a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, I had the privilege of protecting the voting rights of Americans throughout the country. I was given the responsibility of leading my own investigations from the very start, and gained litigation experience early-on in my career.
As a federal prosecutor at the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, I specialized as a senior AUSA in the Sex Offense and Domestic Violence Section. There, I had the privilege of seeking justice for adults and children in the District who were the victims of serious intrafamily violence and sexual assault. I was given responsiblity for every aspect of my cases, from investigation through trial. After handling hundreds of cases in D.C. Superior Court, including more than 40 jury and non-jury trials, I thoroughly understand the trial process and am well-prepared to handle any legal matter in the District. On the personal side, I am a military spouse and the mother of three boys.
I also have two teenage step-children. As I have grown my own family and watched friends and acquaintances do the same, I have become more and more interested in family law matters. Perhaps more than any other area of law, I have found that family law has a daily impact on the vital interests of many people.
I founded the Shinskie Law Group with the vision of empowering healthy relationships and families by providing affordable and effective legal services on the full range of family law matters.
