Karen A. Read primarily serves as national product liability counsel for the fire and safety division of a Fortune 500 company. This necessarily involves cases throughout the nation, allowing Karen the opportunity to practice in different settings and under many different local rules and practices.
Karen has participated in all aspects of pre-trial and trial work, including preparing corporate witnesses, expert witness development in a variety of fields, trials, appellate practice and other dispute resolution proceedings. Karen routinely argues every type of motion, handles or supervises all phases of discovery, and works closely with the client to find and effectuate strategic solutions.
In several cases, she has prepared briefing resulting in either the successful defeat of a wide range of claims or the action in its entirety. Because Karen spends most of her time working for a client who uses an alternative billing arrangement, as opposed to the typical billable hour, she has a unique perspective for handling matters practically and efficiently while achieving client objectives.
Karen participates in the firm’s recruiting efforts, and pro bono matters, and has served on a Leadership Task Force within the firm. She has given multiple presentations to clients and counsel on topics such as litigation strategies and affirmatively using company documents at trial. Karen also has participated in and completed the International Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy held at Stanford Law School.
