Karin M. Gerstin is an associate in the San Diego office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where her practice focuses on intellectual property law. Karin has experience in patent preparation, U.S. and international patent prosecution, diligence, and strategic patent counseling. She represents clients in the life sciences, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries, particularly in the areas of nucleic acid and protein sequences and methods, cancer biology, stem cell technology, vaccines, engineered bacteriocins, antibodies, diagnostic assays, therapeutic methods, and formulations.
Prior to graduating from law school, she worked as a patent agent for Sughrue Mion, DLA Piper, and Foley & Lardner, where she drafted and prosecuted U.S. patent applications and provided scientific support for prosecution of applications in foreign jurisdictions. She also provided scientific analysis in support of patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
Karin’s doctoral research at the University of California, San Francisco, focused on the study of membrane transporter proteins, in particular, the elucidation of the molecular determinants of substrate selectivity of concentrative nucleoside transporters.
