Katherine G. Rigby

Katherine Rigby is a Shareholder in the Boston Office and has devoted her entire legal career to representing employers in a broad spectrum of employment issues and disputes. In addition to regularly litigating employment and wage and hour claims before state and federal courts and agencies.

Ms. Rigby also provides practical counseling in all areas of human resources including: employment agreements and restrictive covenants; handbooks and policies; hiring, discipline and termination; investigations into internal complaints; accommodation of disabilities and personal leave of absences; and other compliance with federal and state employment laws.

Ms. Rigby also has significant experience handling employee training and has personally conducted dozens of management and non-management equal employment and diversity training courses for clients. Before her legal career, Ms. Rigby worked in the human resources field in recruiter, generalist and management positions.

Experience:

• Employment Litigation : Regularly defends employers in employment discrimination and retaliation cases in state and federal court and has obtained summary judgment in cases involving the following claims:
  • Age discrimination;
  • Disability discrimination;
  • National origin discrimination;
  • Sexual harassment;
• Obtained an arbitration award in an arbitration involving claims of gender discrimination and harassment, retaliation, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress and breach of contract
• Defended and obtained favorable results for employers in state and federal court involving Massachusetts wage and hour laws including: alleged unpaid commissions and incentive payments, vacation pay, tip pooling, service charges, meal breaks, overtime, and minimum wage claims
• Obtained summary judgment in a case involving claims of alleged unpaid commission payments pursuant to the Massachusetts wage and hour statutes and breach of contract claims
