Katherine P. Kieckhafer’s practice focuses on complex patent litigation, with an emphasis on cases brought under the Hatch-Waxman Act or otherwise involving pharmaceuticals or biotechnology.
Her practice encompasses all phases of civil litigation, including taking and defending depositions, coordinating electronic discovery, drafting dispositive motions, preparing witnesses for depositions and trial, and appeals.
Ms. Kieckhafer’s practice also extends to disputes before the US Patent and Trademark Office. She represents clients in both bringing and defending against inter partes review. Prior to joining WilmerHale, Ms. Kieckhafer was a law clerk for the Honorable Richard C. Tallman of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Before law school, Ms. Kieckhafer was adjunct faculty at the University of Great Falls and a research technician at the McLaughlin Research Institute studying the molecular and genetic mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease. During graduate school, she used multiphoton microscopy to study the molecular mechanisms of transcription in Drosophila melanogaster.
