Ms. Katherine Mendez is a partner with Seyfarth Shaw LLP, where she is a member of the Labor and Employment Department in Chicago. Ms. Mendez represents employers throughout the country in a range of employment law matters. Her work has included the representation of Fortune 500 companies, as well as medium and small sized employers in trial and litigation matters. Ms. Mendez has experience representing employers in both federal and state courts, and before federal and state government agencies.
Additionally, Ms. Mendez counsels management and human resources professionals on various workplace issues including issues related to absence management and ADA and FMLA compliance. Ms. Mendez was a co-author of “FMLA Practice and Pitfalls,” “FMLA Compliance Update,” and “Strategies and Insights: Department of Labor Issues New FMLA Regulations.”
Ms. Mendez has represented employers in class actions, multi-plaintiff, and single-plaintiff cases involving discrimination on the basis of disability, age, sex, sex harassment, race, national origin, and other protected classifications filed under various federal and state statutes, including The Americans with Disabilities Act (and ADAAA), the Family and Medical Leave Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, 42 U.S.C. § 1981, The Fair Labor Standards Act, The Illinois Human Rights Act, and The Elliot Larsen Civil Rights Act.
Ms. Mendez has completed all six courses which comprise Seyfarth Shaw’s Retail University and she is now a certified member of Seyfarth’s Retail Industry Client Team. Ms. Mendez also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Chicago Kent of Law.
