Kathleen L. Benner is a member of the Environmental, Health and Safety Practice Group in King & Spalding’s Washington, D.C. office. She focuses her practice on complex environmental litigation and environmental compliance.
Ms. Benner has experience defending companies in investigations and enforcement actions brought by the Department of Justice, the Environmental Protection Agency, state attorneys general, and various state-government agencies.
Most recently, she has assisted with the litigation and resolution of numerous state-attorney-general environmental and consumer-protection claims in connection with the importation and sale of motor vehicles.
As part of a team serving a Fortune 500 company, Ms. Benner has assisted in the development and coordination of a customer remediation plan to address an alleged failure to follow lead safe work practices. She regularly works with outside experts and consultants to respond to environmental and health issues raised by the remediation.
Ms. Benner holds an A.B. from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and a J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar in 2013-2014 and a James Kent Scholar in 2014-2015. She was awarded the Edwin Parker Prize for the study of international or comparative law.
Before becoming an attorney, Ms. Benner worked for the Office of the United States Trade Representative in the Executive Office of the President.
