Kay R. Bonza is an associate in the Labor & Employment Department of the firm’s Chicago office. She is a member of the Workplace Safety and Health (OSHA/MSHA) and Environmental Compliance, Enforcement & Permitting practice groups. She focuses her practice on environmental and occupational safety and health (OSHA) counseling and litigation.
Her OSHA experience includes assisting clients in accident and fatality investigations, compliance with national and state enforcement programs, and defense of OSHA citations before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission and its state counterparts. She has experience representing clients in environmental permitting, remediation, and enforcement matters.
Prior to joining Seyfarth Shaw, Ms. Bonza worked as legal counsel for the New Mexico Environment Department and New Mexico Department of Agriculture, where she represented agency interests in rulemaking, permitting, enforcement, and appeal proceedings of federal and state groundwater, surface water, air, solid waste, environmental health, and OSHA matters before administrative and judicial bodies.
She drafted state environmental and OSHA regulations and represented the agency in state rulemakings as well as in challenges to federal rules promulgated under the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act. Ms. Bonza also has experience assisting local governments and industries in complying with environmental laws and permit requirements.
