Kenneth Y. Turnbull, a partner in our Professional Liability practice, defends accounting firms and their professionals in some of their most significant matters, including securities class actions, trustee litigation, arbitrations, and regulatory investigations and proceedings.
Ken represents U.S. accounting firms and foreign firms that are part of global networks in audit, tax, and consulting matters, from motion practice to trial and appeals. He has significant experience in securities class actions, representing these firms in high-profile cases involving the Brazilian oil company Petrobras and the pharmaceutical company Valeant, among others.
He also has extensive experience representing Big 4 firms in cases or arbitrations brought by trustees and receivers, usually seeking a defunct corporation’s entire alleged losses under a “deepening insolvency” theory.
For example, Ken was a member of the King & Spalding trial team that obtained a complete defense verdict following a six-week jury trial on a $1.2 billion claim by the Florida Department of Financial Services, as receiver, against an independent auditor.
Ken also represents firms and professionals in investigations and proceedings by the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, including in regulatory testimony and in Wells and PCAOB Rule 5109(d) submissions.
Prior to practicing law, Ken taught classes in the humanities at the Pennsylvania State University, where he obtained a Ph.D. in ancient philosophy.
