Mr. Black began his business career after college, working as a claims adjuster and underwriter for a downtown Manhattan insurance firm for six years. While there he was named the Vice Chairman of the Young Insurance Professionals of New York.
Leaving the insurance field, he embarked on his legal studies and in 1992 earned a juris doctor degree Magna Cum Laude from Quinnipiac University (formerly known as the University of Bridgeport School of Law), graduating number 5 in his class. He was an academic selection to the Law Review and received numerous American Jurisprudence and Superior Classroom Performance Awards.
While serving as a prosecutor in the Danbury State’s Attorney’s Office from 1994-1999, Mr. Black was honored with the MADD Distinguished Service Award for work with victims of drunk driving and the Judge Phillip E. Mancini, Jr., Award for work with victims of violent crime.
After his service as a prosecutor, he used his business background to serve as Secretary, General Counsel, Senior Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors to a corporation listed on NASDAQ. In that capacity he engaged in a significant amount of international travel negotiating contracts and raising capital in the United States, England, Sweden, Switzerland, Malta, South Africa, Egypt, Philippines, Japan, and China, as well as negotiating and monitoring contracts with the US government.
Missing client interaction and the courtroom Mr. Black, while planning to leave corporate America for good in 2004, had the good fortune to meet Doug Bayer through a mutual aquaintaince. They have been law partners ever since that meeting.
Mr. Black currently serves as a Special Public Defender in both the Danbury and Norwalk courts. As a prosecutor and defense attorney, Mr. Black has handled class A, B, C and D felonies, including murder, manslaughter, manslaughter with a motor vehicle, corrupt organizations and racketeering, assault, robbery, burglary, narcotics distribution, larceny, weapons cases, domestic violence and identity theft. He has also handled a wide variety of misdemeanor crimes, including, but not limited to, drunk driving, possession of narcotics and marijuana, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and motor vehicle violations.
Mr. Black has handled all types of divorce cases and uses his extensive experience in both business and law to negotiate the best settlement possible for his clients, while preparing their cases for trial if a reasonable result cannot be reached. He also helps to prepare the client for the next stage of their life during the proceedings. Mr. Black only accepts the number of divorce cases that allows him to give each client the time and attention their respective matter deserves.
Mr. Black is admitted in the State of Connecticut and the US District Court for the District of Connecticut.
