Kristin Gutting

Kristin Balding Gutting brings invaluable knowledge when representing corporations, partnerships, and individuals in all phases of tax controversy, including IRS and state Department of Revenue audits, appeals and tax litigation. Working nationally and internationally with individuals and entities in various industries, Kristin’s work encompasses many aspects of federal, state, and local tax controversy and planning.

She routinely advises clients on complicated tax matters, seeking to minimize the impact of disputes and resolve them efficiently. In partnership with our tax group, Kristin identifies and manages actual or potential tax controversies during a transaction’s planning phase, particularly with regard to individual and partnership taxation issues.

Kristin has taught and written in the area of tax law and professional responsibility for more than 10 years. She is a tenured Associate Professor of Law at the Charleston School of Law and previously, she was Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Florida–Levin College of Law’s Master of Laws (LL.M.) in the Taxation program.

In addition to practicing, writing, and teaching, Kristin spends her free time with her family. As a former a student-athlete on the women’s softball and soccer teams at Valparaiso University, she particularly enjoys cheering on her children at their sporting events.
