
Kristin Henrikson’s legal practice has centered on serving families and children in all aspects of family law and at all income levels in the District of Columbia and Montgomery County, Maryland. She has been with Delaney McKinney since 2005, where her practice encompasses the full range of family law issues, including prenuptial agreements, custody, divorce and property division, and child and spousal support. Ms. Henrikson has particular expertise and success in litigating jurisdictional, complex custody, paternity and child support, and appellate issues. She is an adroit legal writer and strategist, as well as a highly skilled and experienced litigator.
Ms. Henrikson provides case-specific analysis and advice, honest counsel, and a solution-oriented approach to each matter, in both mediated and litigated contexts. She understands the cost, both financial and emotional, of protracted negotiations and litigation and works with each client to find a path to resolution.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Henrikson served as the Chief of the Legal Services Section for the Child Support Services Division of the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, and as a staff and supervising attorney for the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia. She also clerked for the Honorable Ronna Lee Beck of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Henrikson was a non-profit executive director for Suited for Change, an organization that provides professional clothing to low-income women transitioning to work.
Ms. Henrikson maintains her roots in the legal services community, including by volunteering for the D.C. Bar Advice and Referral Clinic and the D.C. Family Court’s Self-Help Centre and Attorney Negotiator Programs. She also mentors government and legal services attorneys in their pro bono cases and serves as pro bono counsel or guardian ad litem for parents and children who are otherwise unable to afford legal representation. She previously volunteered for the D.C. Bar’s Advocacy and Justice Clinic.
Ms. Henrikson is frequently called upon as an educator and trainer for private practitioners, public interest and pro bono attorneys, judges and law students. In recent years, she has lead trainings for the Family Law Section of the D.C. Bar on developments in appellate and statutory law, high income child support issues, divorce and retirement assets, preparing cases for mediation, and paternity disestablishment. She regularly serves as editor and reviewer of several chapters of the D.C. Bar Practice Manual and has also testified on a number of occasions before the D.C. Council on a variety of family law issues.
