Lajuana Ransaw received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia in 1998 where she was on the Dean’s List. After college, Lajuana attended the University of Georgia School of Law. While in law school, Lajuana served as a committee member for the Davenport-Benham Black Law Student Association, and was a student member of Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA).
Additionally, Lajuana worked in the Athens Public Defender Clinic and as an intern with the United States Department of Labor Office of the Solicitor. Lajuana received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2001 and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 2002.
After graduating from law school, Lajuana worked as a staff attorney for the Honorable Albert B. Collier, Superior Court Judge for the Clayton Judicial Circuit where her primary focus was civil litigation, adoptions, domestic relations law, and complex civil and criminal matters. Lajuana became an associate with Smith, Welch, Webb & White, LLC in December 2013.
Lajuana has experience with drafting lease agreements for both commercial and residential property. She has represented landlords and property management companies who engage in dispossessory proceedings to remove tenants from rental property.
She is knowledgeable and experienced with evicting tenants who have filed for Bankruptcy protection during the eviction process. Lajuana is admitted to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia and can represent landlords’ interests before the United States Bankruptcy Court
Conversely, Lajuana also has experience representing tenants who file civil actions against landlords for wrongfully withholding security deposits, failure to repair leased property, lease disputes, and wrongful eviction. In one instance, Lajuana represented tenants who were sued by their landlord for damages over and above their security deposit.
After trial of the case, the court found that the amount claimed by the landlord for repairs and deductions from the tenants’ security deposit was excessive and wrongful. Lajuana was able to secure a settlement award in favor of the tenants, and the landlord agreed to pay the amount wrongfully withheld to the tenants.
Lajuana is married with one son. She is an active member of her church in Atlanta. She is also an active participant and volunteer with the Georgia Chapter of the March of Dimes. Lajuana enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering, and traveling.
