
Lea A. Weems is an attorney in the Labor and Employment department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP’s Chicago office. Ms. Weems focuses her practice on benefit plan litigation. Prior to joining Seyfarth Shaw, Ms. Weems was a senior attorney with LAF (formerly Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago), where she started in 2006 as an Equal Justice Works fellow.
In her nine years as a legal aid attorney, Ms. Weems worked on a variety of consumer and housing cases, including foreclosure defense, loan modifications, bankruptcy, foreclosure rescue fraud, fair housing, evictions, and administrative hearings regarding termination of subsidized housing assistance.
Ms. Weems clerked for Chief Justice Margaret Marshall at the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts from 2005-2006. A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Ms. Weems worked for three years prior to law school at a nonprofit organization on Chicago’s west side where she helped to develop job training programs for low-income residents.
