Leann Gerlach focuses her practice on defending all types of workers’ compensation claims, representing a broad range of employers and insurers. She has experience drafting case evaluations and court briefs, litigating contested claims, conducting depositions, and negotiating settlements.
Among the clients she has successfully defended and advised are large, self-insured retention employers and employers insured by small- to medium-sized carriers throughout North Carolina, including retail stores, grocery chains, industrial manufacturers, construction companies, staffing agencies, medical facilities, and governmental entities.
Leann has handled cases in front of the Deputy Commissioner and Full Commission level at the North Carolina Industrial Commission, as well as the North Carolina Court of Appeals. While earning her J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Leann served as both a staff writer and contributing editor of the North Carolina Law Review.
After receiving the Gressman-Pollitt Oral Advocacy Award during her first year, she was selected to serve as an Honors Writing Scholar. In addition to her academic achievements, Leann co-founded the Consumer and Commercial Law Society, which aimed to strengthen the focus on consumer protection and business law at the University of North Carolina.
She also participated in the Juvenile Justice Clinic and interned at the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.
