Lisa K. Shallue has developed a niche within the employee benefits field, focusing on health and welfare (H&W) benefits. With over 20 years of employee benefits experience, Lisa advises clients on practical approaches to compliance with myriad regulations impacting their H&W plans.
Lisa has an extensive background in employee benefits and is able to offer clients a broad and practical perspective on challenging issues that often arise in the initial implementation and day-to-day administration of H&W benefits.
She advises all types of employers on how to navigate the multiple laws (e.g., ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, GINA and Medicare) that impact their H&W plans – including group health plans for active and retired employees, cafeteria plans, wellness programs, HRAs, HSAs, and health and dependent care FSAs.
Although she typically works with small and large private and public companies, she also has significant experience representing governmental and nonprofit entities.
Prior to concentrating her practice on H&W benefits, Lisa worked with a broad range of employee benefit matters, including tax-qualified retirement plans (401(k) plans, pension plans, ESOPs and cash balance plans), nonqualified deferred compensation plans and other executive compensation matters.
She also served in-house as a legal resource for a national employee benefits brokerage firm – assisting insurance producers and consultants with a multitude of H&W compliance needs for their clients. Before beginning her legal career, Lisa worked with a national multiemployer pension plan for many years on all aspects of claims administration.
