Lischen Reeves

Lischen P. Reeves focuses her practice in national business and employment litigation. Her work is concentrated in defending corporate employers in a variety of employment-related matters (employment discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wage-and-hour), including commercial disputes, unfair competition, data security and privacy matters.

Lischen is often engaged in early litigation risk assessment, pretrial work, discovery, legal analyses and mediation statements. In addition, she assists clients with corporate service matters.

Lischen completed internships with the Hon. Stephen R. Bough of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, and the Hon. Karen K. Mitchell of the Missouri Court of Appeals for the Western District.

She also interned in Teach For America’s office of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel in New York, assisting with employment and contract matters, as well as corporate compliance and nonprofit law matters.

As a member of Shook’s privacy and data response team, Lischen helps employers formulate an effective response to data breaches. As a law student, she crafted Teach For America’s first data security breach policy and protocol.

Lischen is knowledgeable about key privacy laws including the Federal Stored Communications Act, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

During law school, Lischen was Editor-in-Chief of The Urban Lawyerand a staff member on the UMKC Law Review. She won awards in advocacy, including best oral advocate in the Ellison Moot Court competition and best business plan and pitch in the Regnier Venture Creation Challenge.

She was a member of UMKC’s national moot court team and served as a study group leader for both Property and Contracts law.

Lischen and her family founded two nonprofit organizations. In recent years, both nonprofits have served communities in Liberia, Haiti and South Africa. One of the nonprofits has built a school library that educates more than 900 students in Liberia. Currently, the nonprofit teams are working to build a community center, also in Liberia.

During her Teach For America tenure, Lischen taught reading at Alta Vista Charter Middle School. She held several leadership roles while teaching, including 7th Grade Team Lead.

In her pro bono work, Lischen draws from her background as a reading instructor and school curriculum developer to help ensure Kansas City’s students receive the educational services they deserve.
