
Lonnie C. Rich began his legal career at the United States Department of Agriculture. During these early years of practice, he represented the Department in a wide range of personnel matters. He also represented the Department in administrative proceedings to terminate federal assistance under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
In 1981, he entered private practice in the City of Alexandria and in 1986 joined the existing firm of Rosenthal, Grimaldi & Guggenheim. In 1998, the firm reorganized and became Rich Greenberg Rosenthal & Costle, LLP. Mr. Rich remained a principal with this firm until he formed a new firm in 2008, which is now RRBMDK, LLP.
Over the past 25 years, Mr. Rich’s practice has concentrated on wills, trusts, estate planning, estate administration, real estate, and business matters.
The estate planning has involved families with substantial assets and sometimes been complicated by blended families or children with particular needs. On estate matters, Mr. Rich has helped clients work through very difficult situation involving strong personalities, unclear documents and complicated financial affairs.
In real estate, he has handled commercial sales and leases, and land use matters. Mr. Rich has represented auto dealers, body shops, and restaurants seeking special use permits from local government.
His corporate work has involved setting up corporations and LLCs, as well as sales and acquisitions. Additionally, he has drafted numerous shareholder agreements, operating agreements, non-compete and non-disclosure agreements and employment agreements.
Mr. Rich has long been involved in the civic and community affairs of the City of Alexandria, having served as an elected member of the City Council from 1991 through 2000. In recent years, he served as Chairman of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and The Campagna Center.
