Marcela (Marcy) B. Stras has a port of entry practice that combines business immigration and international trade laws and regulations. She has more than 25 years of experience counseling clients on business immigration, customs, export licensing, anti-boycott compliance, trade sanctions, dumping and countervailing duties, and other trade issues.
Ms. Stras has developed corporate compliance and training programs for I-9s and in the areas of customs, export controls, foreign assets controls, anti-boycott regulations and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. She has conducted internal I-9 reviews and counseled companies in conducting internal customs and export control investigations, and has represented U.S. and foreign companies for their business immigration and trade needs worldwide.
She also represents U.S. and foreign manufacturers, importers, and exporters before various regulatory agencies and committees, including Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the International Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Department of Treasury and the Department of State.
She has appeared before the Court of International Trade and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Ms. Stras served as a lawyer for the U.S. International Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Commerce, and has received awards from the Federal Bar Association and Women in International Trade (WIIT). She was a founding member of WIIT and on the board of directors.
Ms. Stras founded the International Animal Law Committee of the International Law Section of the American Bar Association (ABA). She was a member of the Maryland, and now is a member of the Colorado board of the Humane Society of the United States. She is currently the programs officer of the ABA’s International Law Section.
Previously, she was the technology officer, division chair and co-chair of the Canada Law Committee. She has also won several awards from the Section, including the Unsung Hero Award. Currently, Ms. Stras serves as the events coordinator for the Democratic Women of Boulder County and is an adjunct at the University of Colorado Law School in Boulder.
