Margaret Madison Phelan is admitted to practice law in the states of Washington and Oregon. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration in administrative management from the University of Iowa, her Master of Business Administration from the University of Hawaii graduating Beta Gamma Sigma and her Juris Doctorate from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College.
During law school Margaret worked as an extern for the United States District Court for the District of Oregon and for the Court of International Trade. Ms. Phelan received a Cornelius Honor Society award for leadership, scholarship and contribution to the law school community.
Following law school, Margaret clerked in the United States District Court for the District of Oregon and then practiced in Portland, Oregon before commencing practice in Vancouver, Washington in 1992.
She opened her own practice in October, 1996 after having been associated with the firms of Horenstein & Duggan, P.S., Blair, Schaefer, Hutchison & Wolfe LLP and Bittner & Barker, P.C. Prior to returning to school for her Masters and Juris Doctorate, Phelan was in retail management for seven years in the Midwest.
Margaret is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Oregon State Bar Association, Clark County Bar Association, Multnomah County Bar Association and National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, having been the most valuable member for the Washington Chapter in 2002.
Margaret has focused her practice on estate planning, probate and trust administration, guardianship and the special planning needs of seniors and persons with disabilities. In October 2016 she sold the majority of her interest in the firm to her law partners, Karen L. Webber and Beckie J. Pettis.
She is now of counsel to the firm. Margaret meets with clients on a limited basis and occasionally gives presentations on trusts, long term care pre-planning, estate planning and making health care decisions.
