Maria Lyon is an associate with Foley & Lardner LLP. She is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice.Maria began as a summer associate with Foley, where she assisted clients by researching claims and drafting legal memoranda.
During law school, Maria was a law clerk for Federal Defender Services of Wisconsin, where she researched and drafted legal memoranda, and met with clients at the Dane County Jail. She was a research assistant to Professor Ion Meyn, where she researched and drafted portions of two published law review articles.
She was a legal intern for the University of Wisconsin Law School Restorative Justice Project, where she supervised victim-offender dialogues between felons and their victims as a third-party, neutral facilitator, drafted phone call and visit memoranda, and worked with the Dane County Restorative Court as a peacemaker.
Maria was also a project assistant for the University of Wisconsin Law and Entrepreneurship Clinic, where she compiled worksheets regarding benefits and costs of business entity formats for clients, conducted research on law and entrepreneurship clinics nationwide, and published articles regarding research analysis and clinic performance.
Education :
Maria earned her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School (J.D., magna cum laude, 2018), where she received the Rath Foundation J. Pelisek Law Scholarship.
She was also on the Dean’s List for six semesters, received Best Performance in Contracts and Property, and was the secretary for the Wisconsin Association for Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Maria received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Business Minor from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (B.A., 2014). She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and on the Dean’s List for eight semesters.
