Marshall Moore Slayton

Marshall Slayton’s legal career spans over two decades in Central Virginia. He began his career in 1994 as a general practitioner at a small Charlottesville firm, where he focused on criminal law and litigation.

After joining Forbes Reback in establishing the law firm of Reback & Slayton, the duo joined Ed Bain to form Boyle, Bain, Reback and Slayton, which later became Boyle, Bain, Reback, Slayton & Kelsey.

In his last eight years as managing partner of Boyle, Bain, he focused his practice almost exclusively on bankruptcy law. When Boyle, Bain partners amicably parted ways in December 2015, Mr. Slayton established Slayton Law, PLC to continue to provide highly individualized legal services to people who are dealing with debt and considering bankruptcy.

Marshall Slayton attended the University of Virginia for his undergraduate work as well as for law school. He graduated from UVA in 1988 as a Political and Social Thought Major, writing his thesis on Dante’s Purgatorio and graduating with High Distinction. He subsequently received his J.D. from UVA’s School of Law in 1994.

Mr. Slayton has filed over 1500 Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases in the Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Virginia, including numerous trials and over 130 adversary proceedings. He has also represented a number of defendants in criminal cases and plaintiffs in civil cases before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia, including cases involving the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

In addition to his experience in bankruptcy court, Mr. Slayton also has experience representing hundreds of plaintiffs and defendants in civil and criminal cases in the Circuit and General District Courts for the City of Charlottesville, and the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Madison, Nelson, and Orange.
