Mary Anne Walling is a member of the firm and a skilled specialist in medical malpractice litigation. Ms. Walling has a unique advantage when it comes to medical matters: She started her career as a registered nurse, an experience that took her to the bedsides of critically ill patients and burn victims.

She has helped recover millions of dollars in a series of successful medical malpractice actions since joining the firm in 2001. Ms. Walling, who became a member of the firm in 2011, is based at the firm’s Garden City, N.Y., office.
Verdicts and Settlements:
Ms. Walling has helped her clients to successful settlements in a number of complex medical malpractice cases.
In May 2016, she obtained a settlement for a 67-year-old woman who sought care at a well-respected hospital’s emergency room for severe abdominal pain and constipation. The hospital administered an enema and a potent laxative without doing a necessary C/T scan. The woman was left with a perforated bowel, peritonitis, shock and loss of oxygen to the brain. The error required an emergency laparotomy, creation of a colostomy and left the woman with a permanent cognitive injury.
A month earlier, in April 2016, Ms. Walling settled a case involving the misdiagnosis of a 49-year-old wife and mother of four. A family doctor – who was not a radiologist — misinterpreted a chest x-ray and failed to see that the woman had developed lung cancer. As a result, the woman was left untreated and the cancer advanced to a non-curable Stage 4.
