
Mary Balthrop’s practice areas include real estate and commercial lending, corporate and non-profit organizations. Before joining Sherrard Roe Voigt & Harbison, Ms. Balthrop served as the Dallas Museum of Art’s first ever Secretary & General Counsel where she acted as legal advisor to museum leadership and handled all matters related to the Board of Trustees.
Her experience at the museum included non-profit governance, art and cultural property law, copyright, and charitable giving agreements, among other matters. Prior to that, Ms. Balthrop was a commercial real estate associate at the Dallas, Texas office of an international law firm, where she regularly represented owners and investors in a range of complex commercial transactions throughout the United States.
This experience included representation of owners in connection with the acquisition, disposition, development and financing of commercial real estate projects and landlords and tenants in connection with office, retail and industrial leases.
After law school, Ms. Balthrop served as a law clerk to Justice Diane M. Henson of the Third Court of Appeals of Texas. Ms. Balthrop graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a Dean’s Scholar and a member of the Order of the Coif.
She is a magna cum laudegraduate of Rice University in Houston, Texas where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. A native Texan, she is now proud to call Tennessee her home.
