A member of the firm’s Litigation practice group, Mary B. Ramsay handles a variety of cases in state and federal court, including general insurance law, contract disputes, products and premises liability actions, life insurance and financial services litigation, including Employment Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
She also practices in the regulatory and administrative arena in the areas of health care provider licensing, facility licensing, and certificate of need. Prior to attending law school, Mary worked in public relations and marketing in New York.
Her time there gave her real world experience on how companies work and communicate with the outside world. After law school, she clerked for the Honorable Judge Roger M. Young of the Circuit Court of South Carolina for two years, which was invaluable in helping her learn what to do and not do in the courtroom. Since joining Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, she has had the opportunity to assist with a myriad of legal matters that have allowed her to become a well-rounded attorney.
According to Mary, involvement in one’s community is the difference between living somewhere and making a place a home. This is why she currently serves on the board of the Ronald McDonald House Charity of Charleston and the Society 1858 Board of the Gibbes Museum.
Despite Mary’s busy schedule, she makes time to spend with her family, play tennis, and visit the beaches, sites, and restaurants of Charleston.
