Matthew J. Hrutkay is a natural problem solver who appreciates the nuances of litigation and uses them to his clients’ advantage. His military and legal experience provides a solid foundation, allowing him to remain cool and calm amid the ever-present challenges of litigation.
With extensive experience in state and federal courts, Matthew represents clients in various business litigation matters ranging from small disputes involving closely held companies and their principals up through multibillion-dollar international entities and governmental agencies looking to preserve assets for the benefit of members, shareholders and taxpayers.
Matthew’s practice focuses primarily on litigating contractual disputes, business torts and issues related to fiduciary duties in the real estate, biotech and fitness/lifestyle industries. Having such a broad practice gives Matthew unique insight that he uses to advocate for his clients, allowing him to approach each situation with a fresh perspective to develop creative solutions.
Prior to joining the firm, Matthew worked at two New York City firms, where he built a wealth of knowledge in private and class action securities litigation.
Before law school, Matthew served as an active-duty infantry sergeant in Baghdad, Iraq, with the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division. The motto of his unit continues to inspire his legal work today: “Deeds not words.”
Representative Matters :
- Prosecuting and defending claims of libel, trade defamation, unfair business practices and unfair competition on behalf of a multinational health and fitness company.
- Defeated a motion to dismiss for personal jurisdiction and failure to state a claim in securities litigation against a German car manufacturer relating to diesel emissions falsification.
- Recovered a $41 million settlement for investors in a South American cellular service provider relating to the company’s claims of market penetration in Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Peru.
