Matthew Ian Goforth

Matt has practiced law in Alabama since graduating from law school in 2005. His practice is focused on representing and advising clients in all aspects of their business matters, whether related to a dispute with another party, a business transaction, or a liquidity event.

He routinely advises clients on employee and independent contractor-related matters and other sensitive matters, both business and personal. Matt also regularly represents clients in business sales and purchases, and has negotiated dozens of multi-million dollar business transactions.

On the litigation side, Matt represents clients in all aspects of their business disputes when litigation becomes necessary, and has extensive experience representing businesses and individuals in connection with non-competition and non-solicitation covenants and agreements, and litigation arising therefrom.

Matt is a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and both the Alabama and Birmingham Bar Associations. Away from the office Matt is an avid fisherman and golfer, and when his schedule allows, he enjoys backpacking, canoeing, and other outdoor pursuits. Matt is married to Emily Ponsford Goforth and they are the proud parents of two sons.
