Matthew M. Leland is a partner in our Trial and Global Disputes practice who specializes in complex commercial litigation. He has handled cases for clients in difficult adversarial proceedings, including trial-level litigation, arbitrations and government enforcement actions.
In addition to his litigation work, Matt a former congressional aide and campaign staffer has an active political law practice and advises clients involved in all aspects of the political process.
In his litigation practice, Matt represents clients in many industries, including those in energy, healthcare, pharmaceutical research and manufacturing, and construction. He has handled matters involving contract and commercial disputes, government regulation, bribery, conspiracy, defamation, fraud, trademark and patent infringement, money laundering, and protection of trade secrets.
In political law, Matt represents clients in enforcement actions by the Federal Election Commission and state enforcement agencies, has served as trial counsel in cases involving national political party committees, and advises clients on campaign finance restrictions, lobbying disclosure requirements, and ethics rules.
Before practicing law, Matt worked in leadership positions in politics for more than seven years. He served as a top aide to former Senator and Congressman John E. Sununu, and also was the deputy campaign manager of Mr. Sununu’s first congressional campaign. Matt also served on the grassroots staff of two presidential candidates, publisher Steve Forbes and California Governor Pete Wilson, during New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary.
