Matthew H. MacKenzie is an associate in the firm’s eCommerce, Privacy, and Cybersecurity Group. He has experience helping companies respond to inquiries and investigations by federal and state agencies with respect to a variety of privacy and consumer protection issues.
Matt’s privacy experience includes advising clients with respect to complying with a wide array of statutory and regulatory obligations, including under the Federal Trade Commission Act, the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Matt has experience preparing privacy policies and advising on contract provisions pertaining to privacy obligations.
Matt’s data security experience includes counseling clients through all stages of responding to a data security breach, assisting clients with preparing and revising written information security plans and incident response plans, and advising clients with respect to contractual provisions pertaining to data security obligations and liability.
He also has experience preparing data breach response table top exercises and data security training exercises for Boards of Directors.
Prior to joining Venable, Matt was an associate at a consumer financial services firm in Washington, DC, where he gained experience representing clients in federal regulatory investigations by the FTC and the CFPB. He also served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Alexander Wright, Jr. of the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland.
