Matthew S. Renick is an associate in Venable’s Regulatory Group in New York. Matthew is a 2017 graduate of the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. While in law school, he was a summer associate at Venable LLP.
In 2016, he was also a business and legal affairs extern at Sony Music Entertainment in New York, where he drafted social media services agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and official rules and winner/guest affidavits for sweepstakes and contests; contributed to due diligence analysis of recording agreements and asset purchase agreements; and conducted trademark clearance searches and document review.
In 2015, Matthew was a legal intern at WNET New York Public Media, where he reviewed, revised, and drafted public television production and related agreements; analyzed contracts to determine rights obligations for ancillary distribution of documentary films; conducted legal research regarding intellectual property, media, employment, and the FCC; assessed news and documentary clips for First Amendment, defamation, and fair use risk; and devised legal guidelines for running online promotions via social media.
Before law school, Matthew was a Fellow with Repair the World: Philadelphia. In this capacity, he worked at a K–8 public school, leading recess and classroom games; assisted with conflict resolution, student mentorship, and after-school clubs; developed and facilitated service learning curricula designed to help volunteers connect their service work to their local communities and to the greater Philadelphia community; and designed community discussion events focused on social justice issues, such as education inequality, youth development, homelessness, refugee resettlement, food access, and hunger.
