Maurissa Rushton

Maurissa J. Rushton focuses her practice on environmental and toxic tort litigation. Her interest in environmental law stems from her background in geographic information systems (GIS), in which she majored at Brigham Young University before pursuing a law degree.

During law school, Maurissa worked as a legal extern for the Utah Governor’s Public Lands Policy Office, where she drafted motions and legal memoranda regarding environmental, mining, public lands and water rights issues.

She also completed training for a certification in mediation, during which she spent more than 100 hours mediating disputes in courts throughout Utah.

Maurissa’s interests extend to many aspects of environmental law, including conservation, geography, cartography and agriculture. Before joining Shook, she created a consulting company called Think Spatial that specializes in cartography and GIS analysis and training.

Maurissa also performed conservation work, such as trail preservation and fence construction, with the United States Forest Service. She later worked for AgReserves, Inc. analyzing data and producing maps for agriculture crop areas.
