Maxwell Q. Bartels focuses his practice on workers’ compensation defense.
With a Master’s in Forensic Science and experience as a review attorney in private practice, Max brings to his clients at Goldberg Segalla exceptional abilities in the review and analysis of documents associated with complicated workers’ compensation matters.
His experience includes analysis of documents for litigation and regulatory investigations, as well as significant work in the evolving and increasingly important field of e-discovery.
Before entering private practice, Max served as a legal intern in the New York State Office of the Inspector General, advising investigators and forensic examiners on legal issues regarding computer crimes and digital forensics, conducting complex financial investigations of public corruption and white-collar crime, and preparing and presenting cases for transfer to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
He was also a legal clerk at the Crown Prosecution Service in London, the principal public prosecuting agency for conducting criminal prosecutions in England and Wales. Max assisted with the preparation of cases for prosecution by reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses and victims, and in the determination of criminal charges.
At Syracuse University College of Law Max was an Orange Law Scholarship recipient, served as managing editor of Impunity Watch Law Journal, and was an associate member of the Syracuse Journal of International Law and Commerce.
Always dedicated to his community, Max served as an investigative intern with the New York State Division of Human Rights, investigating civil rights violations and allegations of discrimination in workplaces and housing, and later as a student attorney in the Veterans Legal Clinic in Syracuse, where he assisted veterans with legal matters pertaining to their VA benefits.
