Melissa M. Harwood is a senior associate in the Seattle office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where her practice focuses on strategic patent counseling for healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and chemical companies. Her strategic patent counseling includes developing comprehensive IP strategies, preparation and prosecution of patent applications, assessing patentability and freedom to operate, and patent-related dispute representation.
In addition to advising clients regarding protecting intellectual property rights, Melissa provides investor-side due diligence for financings, acquisitions, and IPOs. She also represents clients in connection with financings, acquisitions, and IPOs.
Melissa specializes in healthcare, chemical, and biotechnology patent matters, including small molecule therapeutics, formulations, immunotherapy, manufacturing processes, polymer chemistry, nanotechnology, protein and nucleic acid chemistry, medical devices, diagnostics, and digital health technologies.
Melissa also has significant experience litigating patent matters in federal court and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including reexamination and inter partes review (IPR) proceedings.
