Mr. Michael Barnett was born in Queens, New York but moved to Boca Raton in 1987 and he has been a resident ever since. He is a 1995 graduate of Boca Raton High School and a 2004 graduate of the University of South Florida where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. In 2007, Mr. Barnett earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law. He is a member of the Florida Bar and has been practicing law since 2007.

Mr. Barnett currently serves as the Chairman of the Republican Party of Palm Beach County and the Vice Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida. He was involved in grassroots activism and the Republican Party early on as a member of the College Republicans and Young Republicans.
In 2010, Mr. Barnett became a committeeman on the Republican Executive Committee, or REC of Palm Beach County, which is the governing body of the Republican Party of Palm Beach County. As a committeeman, Mr. Barnett represented and served as the Republican Party’s liaison to registered Republicans who lived in his precinct, where he engaged in grassroots organizing and informed registered voters of events and other happenings in the local Republican Party.
Mr. Barnett was elected as the Secretary of the Republican Executive Committee of Palm Beach County in December of 2010, and he became the Vice Chair in December of 2012. While serving as the Secretary and Vice Chair of the REC, Mr. Barnett was instrumental in helping to start the Party’s black and minority outreach program which focused heavily on the large Haitian community in Palm Beach County.
As head of the Republican Party of Florida’s Minority Engagement Committee, Mr. Barnett was responsible for reaching out to black, Hispanic, and other minority voters, and his role was seen as pivotal in the November 2016 election. In addition, Mr. Barnett was the only black delegate in Florida’s ninety-nine-member Republican National Convention delegation in 2016.
Mr. Barnett was elected as Chairman of the REC in December of 2014, and he believes in working to help get Republicans elected to public office without sacrificing his principles or values. In January 2017, Mr. Barnett was also elected as the Vice Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.
Mr. Barnett is seen as a rising star within the Republican Party, and as Chairman of the local Republican Party, he has brought a number of new people into the Republican Party and has also been successful in uniting the local Republican Party. He has earned strong support from Republicans across the entire political spectrum.
Mr. Barnett is a member of the Knights of Columbus and is an actively involved as a parishioner at Boca Raton’s Ascension Catholic Church. Mr. Barnett advocates for issues involving immigrants and has been on missions and political trips to Haiti. In his spare time, Mr. Barnett volunteers at The Soup Kitchen in Boynton Beach, Florida. He also loves to spend time with his girlfriend and enjoys helping to care for his two-year-old adopted nephew.
