Michael C. Brook

Michael Brook practices in the area of litigation with a focus on complex commercial, employment and transportation litigation. Mr. Brook represents financial institutions, business entities, and individual clients in matters in federal and state courts, and has represented clients in all phases of litigation, including pre-litigation investigation and risk assessment, large volume electronic discovery, and appeals.

He represents both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of matters, including contractual disputes, class actions, products liability, maritime law, tort-based actions and violation of consumer protection statutes.

In addition, Mr. Brook regularly counsels employers and businesses on employment law issues, including compliance with federal, state, and local laws governing the workplace. He defends employers in litigation in cases involving alleged harassment and discrimination, retaliation, and non-compete and trade secret claims.

He also assists with updating one of the leading treatises on Maryland employment law, Maryland Employment Law Forms and Practice Manual, which provides a practical focus on day-to-day legal issues relating to the employee/employer relationship.

  • Representing multinational biotechnical firm in breach of contract dispute with prime contractor in federal court.
  • Representing financial institutions in commercial litigation disputes over account documentation and transactions, financial instruments, and statutory and Maryland common law claims.
  • Represented lenders and loan servicers in lender liability actions, creditor rights claims, and tort-based actions.
  • Represented international shipping company in Rule B maritime attachment proceeding involving alter-ego and fraudulent conveyance allegations against a Turkish vessel.
• Employment Litigation
  • Defended national software company against claims of discrimination, retaliation, and disability accommodation before the EEOC.
  • Obtained settlement that the client found favorable of sexual harassment and retaliation claims against computer software vendor.
  • Responded to demand letters on behalf of clients involving claims under the FMLA and ADA.
