His extensive background in a broad range of tax-related areas, including estates and trusts, pension and benefit planning, industrial development bonds, business organizations, reorganizations, and business sales and acquisitions, as well as a variety of other regulatory areas on behalf of businesses large and small promote a “big picture” understanding of business issues and expedite client communications.
Income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, tax appeals and litigation, economic development incentives and legislative and regulatory affairs are among his areas of particular interest at present. Whether guiding a national enterprise through a compliance challenge or helping a family-owned business manage tax issues that threaten its survival, Mike offers realistic legal counsel and effective strategies to help clients reach their goals.
As a member and rotating chair of the Arkansas Tax Advisory Council for decades, Mike has the unique experience of helping improve the interaction between taxpayers, the professional tax community and the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration on legislative and administrative issues.
He has served as tax counsel and legislative resource on tax issues for the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce and Associated Industries of Arkansas for 30 years, and through these organizations has been directly engaged or represented the interests of most of the largest businesses and industries in Arkansas, as well as being directly involved in the legislative process surrounding many of the tax changes proposed or adopted over many years.
Based on these activities and others, Mike has developed strong relationships at the administrative and policy-making levels of the Department as well as in other branches and agencies of state government that can help “get things done.”
Mike’s abilities, leadership and service have been recognized repeatedly throughout his career. His many awards include recognition among Best Lawyers in America in Tax Law, Tax Litigation and Controversy, and Trusts and Estates for 10 years.
