
Mickey Leibner is an International Trade associate in Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office. He advises a variety of clients in the private, nonprofit and government sectors. He also lobbies and advocates regularly to US congressional staff and elected officials, and has extensive experience developing and implementing winning strategies to achieve clients’ goals.
Mickey’s work in political law, campaign finance, and lobbying compliance issues provides key insight to clients, and is particularly adept at helping clients navigate interactions local, state, and federal governments.
Previously, Mickey was the Director of Government Relations at the Moffett Group, where he led the firm’s domestic portfolio, lobbied on behalf of international clients and ran the firm’s day-to-day operations.
In that role, he developed and implemented successful lobbying campaigns for a variety of clients, ranging from the last-minute rescue of the $1.9 billion, 845 MW Shepherds Flat wind project to ensuring that financial regulators focus on the business practices of predatory pyramid schemes. Mickey emphasizes coalition-building to achieve client objectives and strives to bring together unlikely allies to advocate most effectively.
Mickey also worked in Senator Edward Kennedy’s Judiciary Committee office during the nomination process of two Supreme Court justices and at MassEquality, where he fought to preserve the rights of same-sex couples in Massachusetts.
He has also spent time on a number of political campaigns, including House races during the Democrats’ landslide victories in 2006, state House races in the Northeast, gubernatorial races and presidential campaigns. In the fall of 2008 he helped plan and execute the GOTV strategy for the Obama-Biden campaign in Charlottesville, Virginia and at the University at Virginia.
