Mitchell B. Stern counsels clients in all aspects of commercial and residential real estate transactions, with an emphasis on commercial leasing. In addition to representing clients in real estate sales, acquisitions, financing and construction, Mitchell’s primary area of practice involves the representation of tenants in leasing transactions for shopping centers (malls, outlets and strip centers), stores, offices, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, parking lots and garage facilities.
Additionally, he regularly handles matters involving general business, corporate and commercial transactions. In his many years of private practice, Mitchell has counseled clients extensively in the areas of employment law, trademarks and copyrights, entertainment law, and litigation. Mitchell has made several appearances on national television as a legal expert on CNBC’s “Money Talk,” and has served as a business and legal consultant to ABC News’ “20/20.”
Mitchell is the author of Buy Your Own Business: The Definitive Guide to Identifying and Purchasing a Business You Can Make a Success, a book on becoming an entrepreneur in the 21st century. He was also a contributing author and small business editor for Beat the System, a consumer, legal and business book published in 1997.
Mitchell has written extensively on issues involving real estate, business and personal finance for several major publications, including New York Magazine, Working Woman and Personal Finance Magazine.
He was also the small business and legal affairs editor for AT&T Small Business Solutions, a quarterly journal published by Business Week for AT&T, and in that capacity, wrote numerous articles for would-be and established entrepreneurs and small business owners.
Prior to joining Olshan, Mitchell was a partner at Dreier LLP in the Real Estate Department. He has practiced in the real estate department at prominent law firms in Manhattan and Miami, and more recently, headed the real estate and transactional department at Gursky & Partners, LLP.
