Nathan Douglas Wente grew up in a small town near Portland, Oregon. I was involved in a variety of athletics through high school and managed to earn a full scholarship to play football at BYU in Provo, Utah. After a few years at BYU I left and ultimately graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in psychology.
After undergraduate school I attended law school in southern California. While attending law school I spent a great deal of time working outside of class. While many of my classmates were dedicated to getting top grades I spent my time working and volunteering at private law firms as well as the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office. I was more interested in learning how to be a lawyer than I was interested in becoming a great exam taker.
It was not long after my employment as a Deputy District Attorney that I began to realize that our criminal justice system was not at all like I had been told. I began to come to the conclusion that I did not belong working for the government and that I was better suited to fight against it.
In 2011 I passed the Oregon bar exam. That same year I resigned as a Deputy District Attorney and began private practice as a lawyer defending citizens against the government.
