Nicholas Carter Minshew, Attorney at Law, concentrates his practice in the areas of Family Law including divorce, separation, child support, child custody, alimony, division of property, separation agreements, domestic violence, prenuptial agreements, child support enforcement and modification, and Adoption Law. Mr. Minshew provides legal services to clients in Washington, D.C., and throughout Maryland, including Montgomery County, Frederick County, and Prince George’s County.

Carter Minshew obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from the American University, Washington College of Law in 2000, where he worked as an editor for the Administrative Law Review.  After receiving his law degree, Mr. Minshew worked as an attorney for the global law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, and for Leonard Street & Deinard LLP representing companies in Federal proceedings. During that time, Mr. Minshew redirected his focus to provide legal services directly to individuals and families.

He joined a non-profit adoption agency as the Director of International Programs assisting prospective adoptive families in adopting children from countries as far away as Guatemala, Russia and India. With the intention of expanding the scope of his practice, Mr. Minshew worked as an associate attorney for two of the leading family litigation law firms in Washington, D.C. and Maryland.

In February, 2010, Mr. Minshew chose to open his own law firm to focus on obtaining favourable results for his clients while providing individualized and cost-effective legal representation, and to pursue his legal interests by devoting his practice to Family Law and Adoption Law.

Prior to entering law school, Mr. Minshew earned a Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Maryland in 1997. He worked for the domestic violence unit at the Circuit Court for Baltimore City representing victims of domestic violence to obtain protective orders; with a non-profit organization providing mental health and rehabilitation services to psychiatric individuals; and in the Office of Senator Paul Wellstone where he researched and documented domestic violence issues. While working in the Office of Senator Paul Wellstone, Mr. Minshew decided to pursue his career in law.
