Nicholas D. Brauns approaches his transportation and employment cases with pragmatism while creating a collaborative environment with his clients. “I don’t get bogged down in fights. My job is to assist my clients in establishing their business and litigation goals.”
A member of the Transportation, Employment, and Business Litigation practice groups, his expertise is in international transportation and employment law and litigating business disputes for small to medium-sized businesses.
With every case he works closely with clients to discuss options and develop strategies to meet established goals. His legal experience also includes FINRA arbitrations, homeowner’s association disputes involving the Davis-Stirling Act, defamation actions, and financial services litigation. Before he joined Higgs Fletcher & Mack as a corporate lawyer, Mr. Brauns practiced for three years at another respected San Diego law firm.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Brauns worked as a Marine Surveyor and was one of only a handful of North American surveyors certified by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) to inspect bulk cargo vessels for compliance with the Australian government’s stringent bio-security protocols.
Mr. Brauns has also represented the interests of shipping conglomerates, such as the American Natural Soda Ash Consortium (ANSAC), and international shipping companies, such as the Canadian Potash Exporters (Canpotex), when shipping valuable bulk cargoes to various ports throughout the world.
As a surveyor, Mr. Brauns was trusted to assist with casualty investigations for domestic insurance companies and became accustomed to analyzing complex maritime issues during the course of litigation. Mr. Brauns has drawn on his extensive maritime background to resolve a variety of cargo-related claims for transportation clients.
