Nina Yuanyuan Ren

Nina Yuanyuan Ren focusses her practice on areas such as sexual harassment, civil rights, discrimination, wrongful termination, employment & labor, and litigation. She is an attorney with the law firm Kalijarvi, Chuzi, Newman & Fitch PC in Washington, DC.

She joined KCNF in May 2014 and continues to help employees in a wide range of complex employment issues such as discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower cases, security clearance applications, and appeals.

She is a member of the security clearance practice of her current law firm KCNF and represents federal employees and contractors in matters where they face threats or suspension of their clearances, or when someone challenges their suitability for federal employment.

She has gained the experience of representing clients before the Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals and at several intelligence agencies. She routinely represents her clients before the court as well as the Office of Special Counsel, the Merit Systems Protection Board, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

She served as an Associate at Gebhardt & Associates before joining her current law firm and worked on employment discrimination cases for the private sector and federal employees while focusing on national origin, age discrimination, disability, race, and sex claims.

She has worked as a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases based in Bethesda, Maryland. She has also published articles in the Journal of Immunology and the Journal of Arthritis and Rheumatism.

Nina Y. Ren developed a keen interest in public interest and civil rights law while attending the Washington & Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia. She was the Semifinalist at the Law Client Counseling Competition and the Law Mediation Competition, as well as the Semifinalist for Best Brief at the John W. Davis Appellate Advocacy Competition, conducted in her law school.

In her third year at the law school, she worked as a student attorney in the Black Lung Clinic and argued a case before the Administrative Law Judge to obtain federal benefits for a retired coal miner who developed black lung disease from his work in the coal mines of West Virginia.

She also served as a board member of the W&L Women Law Students Organization and the W&L Public Interest Law Students Association. She obtained her Juris Doctorate in 2013.

She obtained her Bachelor’s of Arts degree with honors while double majoring in History and Philosophy from The State University of New Jersey in Rutgers in the year 2009. She joined law school after taking a gap year to complete her work at the National Institutes of Health and to work in Chongqing, China.

She has obtained the memberships of professional associations such as the District of Columbia Bar, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, The Washington Metropolitan Employment Lawyers Association, the National Employment Lawyers Association, the Security Clearance Lawyers Association, and the Labor & Employment Law Committee of the American Bar Association.

Nina Ren has served as the Co-Chair of the Membership Committee of the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia.
