Patrick H. Garrard was born and raised in Athens, Georgia. He is a dedicated trial lawyer who is committed to helping catastrophically injured victims and their family members. His practice focuses on product liability cases, but he also handles a variety of mass torts, personal injury cases, premises liability lawsuits, and pharmaceutical antitrust litigation.
Patrick attended Vanderbilt University where he earned his B.A. in Spanish, graduating magna cum laude in 2004. Afterward, he attended the University of Georgia School of Law where he obtained his J.D., graduating magna cum laude in 2007. During law school, he was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Coif.
Upon his graduation from law school, Patrick clerked for the Honorable B. Avant Edenfield in the Southern District of Georgia. During this distinguished clerkship, Patrick gained extensive insight into how the court operates, as well as various aspects of litigation. Following his clerkship, Patrick joined Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley, P.C. where, in 2014, he soon became a shareholder.
Patrick’s legal practice encompasses a wide variety of personal injury cases. Currently, he is working on behalf of victims of defective medical products and devices, including Atrium C-Our and Ethicon Physiomesh hernia meshes, C.R. Bard and Cook Medical IVC filters, and Johnson & Johnson talcum baby powder.
Patrick is also currently pursuing a number of antitrust cases against various pharmaceutical companies, including Pay for Delayed Entry of generic medications. Recently, he and two other firms filed an antitrust action on behalf of the state of California.
The action alleges that certain pharmaceutical companies conspired to keep alternative generic medications from the marketplace, thereby harming consumers. Patrick was also instrumental in one of the largest MDLs in U.S. history, serving on the BBGA litigation team on behalf of individuals who were harmed by faulty transvaginal mesh.
In the historic multi-district transvaginal mesh litigation, Patrick worked with expert witnesses in an effort to build thousands of cases brought forth by injured victims. Along with the other attorneys involved, Patrick played a key role in the successful resolution of countless cases.
Patrick’s hard work and commitment to his clients have earned him recognition from a number of prestigious national organizations and publications. He was selected for inclusion in the Georgia Super Lawyers® Rising Stars list for four years in a row (2015 through 2018), and is a proud member of the National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice.
In his free time, Patrick stays active in his local community. He supports a number of charitable organizations and has served on numerous boards, including those for Athens Area Community Foundation, UGA Law School Association Council, Prevent Child Abuse Athens, and Athens made.
