Peter Alfano is a senior associate in our global Competition – Antitrust Practice Group, where his practice covers all aspects of antitrust matters, including: merger review representation before US agencies and global antitrust authorities; counseling on business affiliations, joint ventures and other competitor collaborations; representing companies and individuals in both civil antitrust actions and during criminal antitrust investigations and prosecutions; and implementing jurisdiction-specific and global antitrust compliance programs.
His practice experience has involved substantive issues across numerous industries, including in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, technology/semiconductor, automotive, logistics, chemicals and telecommunications industries, among others.
Complementing his experiences representing clients in global merger control issues, Peter also practices within our International Trade Group, where he specializes in national security investment reviews. In this practice area, Peter is actively involved in representing the firm’s non-US clients before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). In this capacity, he also tracks all publicly known CFIUS filings and reports them on the Trade Practitioner blog.
As a corollary to his work in global antitrust compliance and national security, Peter also counsels domestic and international clients in anticorruption compliance and government investigations involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). As part of the firm’s global FCPA team, Peter is involved in creating and implementing FCPA compliance policies and training and conducting audits of non-US operations to assess FCPA risks.
Prior to joining our firm, Peter worked at another international law firm in Washington DC, where his practice focused on antitrust matters, including representing foreign companies under investigation by the US Department of Justice Antitrust Division and responding to second requests under Hart-Scott-Rodino merger reviews. He also worked as a law clerk in the Felony Trial Division of the Maryland Office of the Public Defender, where he assisted in criminal defense matters up through trial.
Peter is a member of the New York, Massachusetts and District of Columbia Bar Associations and the Antitrust and Health Care Law Sections of the American Bar Association.
