Peter H Tilem

Peter Tilem’s legal career started in September of 1991 as an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s Office in Manhattan, where he was assigned to the prosecution and investigation of hundreds, if not thousands, of criminal cases—including violent crimes, white collar crimes and homicides. Many of Mr. Tilem’s cases received great notoriety, public attention and media coverage and some were instrumental in breaking new legal ground in New York Criminal Law.

He was honored for his effort by various departments within the New York City Police Department, including the Detective Bureau, the Organized Crime Investigation Division and the Police Academy. Mr. Tilem was also assigned to conduct educational and training classes for police officers, prosecutors and public schools and was eventually assigned to teach the “Excellence in police Testimony” class at the New York City Police Academy. He resigned in the fall of 2001 as a Senior Prosecutor to pursue a career in private practice.

Mr. Tilem founded Lenihan & Tilem, LLP, where he continued to handle high profile and complex cases. In connection to one such case, he appeared on 60 Minutes and CNN. At this firm, he considerably expanded his already substantial litigation experience, appearing frequently in both state and federal courts on both civil and criminal cases, and litigating a wide variety of complex real estate, commercial, estate, and family matters.

Since founding Tilem & Associates, PC, Mr. Tilem has continued to litigate in both state and federal courts and has continued his representation of clients involved in high-profile cases. Mr. Tilem appears regularly in the newspaper and on television concerning his representation in such cases and as a legal commentator.

He has been retained in connection to the litigation surrounding the estate of Russell Jones (a rapper also known as “Old Dirty Bastard” or “ODB”) and other celebrities. Mr. Tilem is also frequently asked to teach continuing legal education classes having to do with both legal skills and legal ethics. Mr. Tilem has been able to steadily grow his practice by adhering to several guiding principles which have translated to obtaining exceptional results for his clients.
