Peter A. Pavarini is a senior partner in the Corporate Practice Group and a member of the Healthcare Industry Group. He focuses his practice on the representation of hospitals and other healthcare providers in a wide range of strategic, regulatory and transactional matters, particularly physician alignment models and the development of clinically integrated provider organizations.

Peter has devoted his entire legal career to addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by healthcare regulatory reforms and marketplace trends. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for healthcare since 1991 and has been recognized by his peers in numerous other surveys and directories.

Peter is the immediate past president of the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA), the nation’s largest organization dedicated to health law issues. Peter is a frequent speaker and author on the transformation of the US healthcare system. He serves as an executive editor and author of AHLA’s The ACO Handbook: A Guide to Accountable Care Organizations.

He has been instrumental in launching the Squire Patton Boggs Triage Health Law Blog. Peter is frequently quoted in national publications covering the healthcare industry, and contributed the legal chapter of the seminal text, Essentials of Health Care Finance by William O. Cleverly.

Throughout his career, Peter has contributed his time and creativity to numerous boards and commissions advancing the public’s interest in achieving equitable access to healthcare, including the Affordable and Sustainable Health Care Project, the Ohio Senate’s Certificate of Need Advisory Commission and Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation’s Charitable Organization Project.

In 2006, Peter and his spouse founded the Grace Clinic of Delaware County, a free medical ministry that has served thousands of patients who lack access to basic health services. He was recently recognized for this accomplishment by the Columbus Bar Association and was named to the inaugural class of AHLA’s Pro Bono Champions.

He has also served on the boards of numerous charities, including Goodwill Columbus, the Friends of the Homeless and Three Strands, which is developing surgical facilities in Africa. Before entering private law practice in 1981, Peter served as an Attorney-Advisor in the Office of General Counsel of the US Department of Health & Human Services in Washington DC.

  • Providing counsel in the syndication of more than 20 ambulatory surgical centers including several that have been converted to a specialty surgical hospital.
  • Advising an internationally recognized integrated health system on restructuring its relationship with a provider-sponsored health plan.
  • Serving as an adviser to a technology company that provided the infrastructure for one of the first statewide health information exchanges.
