
Peter J. Sistare counsels his clients on patent law in the mechanical and electrical technologies, including prosecution of patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, management of international patent portfolios, patent dispute resolution, freedom-to-operate investigations, infringement and validity opinions, and due diligence matters.
Before becoming a lawyer, Peter was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he was Chief of the Machinery Branch and responsible for compliance of main propulsion and auxiliary engineering systems design for U.S. flag cargo, tank and passenger vessels, and offshore drilling and oil production platforms.
Prior tours of duty included on-site technical inspections of commercial vessel main propulsion and auxiliary engineering systems in the U.S., Europe, Middle East and Africa, operational and maintenance engineering of main propulsion and auxiliary systems on Coast Guard vessels and narcotics interdiction.
Peter also holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and is licensed as a Mechanical Professional Engineer in Virginia.
