Brian Strickland, 33, is a native of McDonough, Georgia. He is the State Representative for District 111 of Henry County, Georgia, and has served in the Georgia General Assembly for five years.
He was first elected to serve in the Georgia House of Representatives in 2012 and was re-elected in 2014 and 2016. In 2017, the Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named State Representative Brian Strickland the Chairman of the Industry and Labor Committee.
Brian serves on the Banks & Banking Committee, the Appropriations Committee, the Economic Development & Tourism Committee, the Intragovernmental Coordination Committee, and Judiciary Non-Civil Committee. Brian also serves as a Deputy Whip to the Majority Caucus.
In 2016, Brian was appointed by the Governor of Georgia to serve as one of the three Commissioners for the State of Georgia for the Uniform Law Commission and to serve as a member of the Georgia Film, Music, and Digital Entertainment Commission. In 2017, the Speaker of the House of Representatives appointed Brian to serve on the General Oversight Committee for the Georgia Public Defenders Council.
Brian has received numerous awards and recognition including being named the 2016 Legislator of the Year for the Georgia Association of Solicitor Generals, the 2016 Graduate of the Last Decade Award from Valdosta State University, the 2016 Red Blazers Award from Valdosta State University College Republicans, and the 2015-2016 Champions of Georgia Cities Award from the Georgia Municipal Association.
Brian Strickland was born and reared in the city of McDonough and graduated from Henry County High School in 2002. In 2006, he graduated from Valdosta State University with a B.B.A. in Economics, receiving Dean’s List Honors and membership in the Pi Gamma Mu Honor Society.
Brian was elected Chairman of the VSU College Republicans in 2005. After graduation from Valdosta State University, he attended Florida Coastal School of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in 2009.
At Florida Coastal, Brian received the Dean’s Scholar Award, the Book Award for highest grade in a course, and the Class of 2009 Law Student Recognition Award. He also was elected by his peers to serve as the President of the Student Bar Association of Florida Coastal School of Law in 2008 and 2009.
