R. Terry Miller retired from the partnership at the end of 2017. Mr. Miller served multiple terms as a member of the firm’s management committee. He was chair of the firm’s real estate department and later chaired the real estate finance and securitization practice.
Mr. Miller has more than 40 years of experience in real estate, including acquisition and disposition of income-producing properties, such as office buildings, shopping centers, industrial facilities and apartment complexes. He also has extensive experience in workouts, major lease transactions and mixed-use development projects. He has represented foreign investors, institutional lenders, major national developers and financial services companies. Over the last 20 years, Mr. Miller has been heavily involved in the securitization of real estate and real estate mortgages and all related loan origination, loan servicing and asset management functions. He has been the senior lawyer in the representation of special servicers of REMIC trusts as they relate to the negotiation and execution of pooling and servicing agreements covering in excess of $100 billion of mortgage loans. Mr. Miller’s real estate finance group handled the closing of more than $5 billion in real estate loans and has handled more than 5,000 defaulted commercial mortgage loans from the lender’s/servicer’s perspective. In connection with the handling of such commercial mortgage loans, Mr. Miller’s group has been involved in 1,500 bankruptcies, more than 1,000 foreclosures and numerous REO sales, forbearances, modifications, defeasances and amendments to such mortgage loans.
Mr. Miller was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1971.
He is a member of the Dallas and American Bar Associations and the State Bar of Texas.
