Richard is the co-founder of BottomLine Lawyers PC. He has a unique breadth of experience which has enabled him to meld technology, sophisticated legal analysis, “outside the box” strategies and a collaborative style to create innovative solutions with his clients.
Richard attended law school at the University of La Verne and was admitted to the California Bar in 1988 and the Federal Bar in 1989. Many lawyers come to the law without any practical business experience, and few come with significant management experience. Through serendipity rather than design, he is an exception. His prior business experience afforded him a fast track to complex civil trials and the opportunity to work closely with business clients.
Richard also founded three legal information companies to help public and private entities manage the “business end” of law. Melding technology and sophisticated statistical analysis, he produced a technology driven analytical model of the practice of law. In 1994, he invented linguistic modeling software which automatically applied budget codes, performed GAAP accrual financial reporting and conducted compliance analysis.
Richard is also a licensed California Real Estate Broker and has performed feasibility analysis of investment projects, including historic preservation district qualified buildings. He’s also directed acquisition and syndication of commercial properties. Richard also managed multi-tiered Map Act land splits. He was an early member of the Exchangor’s Club, specializing in 1031 tax deferred transactions.
Richard has litigated a variety of issues in State and Federal Courts throughout California, including the Court of Appeal. He is admitted to all California Courts, Federal Courts in the Eastern, Northern and Central District of California as well as the US Tax Court. He is also certified by the General Counsel’s office of the US Veteran’s Administration to represent veterans in disability claims and appeals.
